Adaptive Video Streaming over HTTP CS6956 - Wireless and Mobile Networks Term Project

With the recent popularity of smart phones and tablet computers, the usage of the mobile Internet continues to be dramatically expending. A survey [1] expects that the global mobile data traffic will grow at the annual rate of 66 percent from 2012 to 2017 and the video data traffic will account for 66 percent of the total amount of the mobile data. Concurrently, the network operators, such as AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and T-Mobile, are trying to provide the faster network of LTE (Long-Term Evolution) for mobile users. The mobile users naturally want to experience higher quality of video streaming. However, due to the lack of mobile coverage and limited bandwidth, mobile users do not always experience the higher quality of video streaming, and what is worse, they suffer interrupted video streaming.
